Are you tired of all the skincare advice of beauty gurus you’ll see on several social media platforms? Especially when searching for specific answers for skin or skincare products?

Trying out different kinds of products, and still, there isn’t one that fits your skin perfectly. What do you do?

Right…Do what is best for YOUR skin, not what anyone else is saying. In the end, we are all unique, so possibly your skin needs a different treatment than mine.

The best thing I did and perhaps you could do is by doing your own research. Ask yourself questions.

What do the products do on my skin;

How is my skin reacting when I use …….;

How many products I have to apply to my skin to get an inevitable result…….

Skincare routine where to start simplify?

To admit, I started my beauty regime after my 3oths. As I am writing this, I can’t remember my mother had a strict skincare routine.  And I can’t even remember if I had a specific face cream around my 20ths. My friends talk a lot about their skincare routine.

That’s how my interest awakened.

My first skincare products were from Biodermal, suggested by a friend who used that as well. Not knowing what I was doing and which products I needed for my skin, I just started using what they recommended.

Back then, I had NO routine at all. And I had no clue how to use the products and in which order. Online shopping with all the product details wasn’t that “normal” as we have now. It was buying the product at the local drugstore or special beauty counters in shopping malls.

My first experience was at a beauty counter “buying” some skincare products. Bombarded with a lot of questions I couldn’t answer to.

The first question she asked me?

Which skin type do you have?

I had no clue, and even though I didn’t know what she meant. She takes the time and gives some explanation of different skin types.

Because she saw that it was all overwhelming, she gives me a sample to try out. My first “high-end” product was from Bobbi Brown.

With my samples and information on skin types, I started my research. I went online, reading a lot and watching YT reviews.  About all different kinds of skin types with the products, you should use. It was too overwhelming all the information I got from these mediums.

After absorbing so much information, I stopped watching and reading. I just started doing my own thing through trial and error. And just aks quest.

Is a Simple skincare routine important for Combination-oily or sensitive skin?

To set yourself in a state of mind. First thing in the morning is vital to have a routine. Your mind knows what to do each morning because of your routine. Like the steps you take each morning, day in, day out.

It gives you a certain peace throughout the day.  So YES, it is important.

But do you need a bunch of products to have an effective skincare routine? The answer depends on what your skin needs and what you like.

For me, a lot of different products building on my skin make it much greasier. While I have combination-oily skin and sensitive skin, I have to take care of what to put on my face.

I found the products that fit my skin to trial and error and read the ingredients on the products.

But more importantly, through my routine, my mind is wired to take care of my skin each morning and before I go to bed. To pursue, I keep my skincare routine simple yet effective.

Why a simple skincare routine is better if you have a combination-oily and sensitive skin

I am an early bird. My biological clock starts at 5 am almost every morning. I get out of bed and do a 10 min exercise to wake up and stretch out the stiffness out of my body.

Next is washing my face with a gentle, sensitive face wash. This is just from the drugstore. For my face, I have a separate face towel; I don’t like to mix things up. What is for the body, use it for that and what’s for the face is just for that.

After washing, I cover my face with Kiehl’s day cream or Bobbi Brown’s hydration cream to let it absorb into my skin.

Then I go for a shower, dress up and get ready for the day.

My second layer of skincare product is Paula’s Choice (sunscreen) day cream SPF 50. That’s it for my face in the morning if I don’t put make-up on. I like to keep it natural. For me, it’s more about my grooming.

In the evening, I wash my face with an oil-based cleanser from Paula’s Choice because of my sensitive skin. I only use this when I have make-up on.

When I don’t wash my face with a cleanser, I clean my face first with Garnier Micellar water to remove all the make-up.  Then I wash my face with a cleanser. It gives me the feeling that I wash all the dirt off my skin.

What should a skincare routine include

Three times a week, I exfoliate my skin with Paula’s Choice Clear line to keep it simple. And after exfoliating, I apply a night cream or Drunk Elephant Marula oil. This depends on which season it is.

Keeping it this simple makes it easy to do my skincare routine even when I am tired. This skincare regime works perfectly for me and my skin.

Why a simple skincare routine

What should an Effective skincare routine include

Keeping my skincare routine simple with fewer products that work for my skin makes my life less stressful.

With my busy schedule, I like to keep things aside from my schedule simple but effective.

What I add to my routine are three or two products of each. So I don’t have to choose between a lot of products. What I like about this is switching between those products.

For instance, I use Kiehl’s hydration day cream or a drugstore sensitive day cream.

In the morning, I use a gentle face wash for sensitive skin. The evenings contain more products, depending on if I apply make-up or not.

Keeping my skincare routine simple and effective gives me additional time to put more effort into my self-love routine, which is more than a skincare routine alone.

At least one or two times a week, I like to pamper my skin. I love to add face masks and give myself a face massage, and more.

What should a skincare routine include

Here I don’t just do my skincare routine, but I nourish my body and soul. This is my self-love routine.

For me, self-love is essential, and it says something about my wellbeing.

With that, I am more obvious what my skin is telling me. Like which product doesn’t fit my skin anymore, or do I have to switch from products.

Conclusion

It’s important to know your skin. It will tell you a lot about what you should use, how much you should use and so on.

The only conclusion is to try out yourself. Only YOU can tell what your skin needs.

And of course, it will help to read reviews about products to get some indication of products. But that should not be the primary guidance to purchase a product.

And if you do, seek for some samples to see if it works for your skin. At least I did. Some brands sell mini travel packages or products on their own.

This makes it much easier to try out some products. If this doesn’t work for your skin, you don’t have to throw away a 50ml bottle. Let’s be honest you don’t want to waste products and money.

But more important is that you keep your routine simple yet effective. No matter the number of products you use. It shouldn’t feel like a burden, but more like excitement.

What does your skincare look like? Do you have lots of products that your skin needs or a couple that work perfectly?
