Silk has been the most desirable fabric for centuries.  When you wear Silk, you feel instantly irresistible.

But what if you reach the age and menopause knocks on your door. One of the annoying things is hot flashes. You don’t want sweat stains on your silk garment because of the hot flashes.

How do you choose a Silk garment that works for you and still looks and feels irresistible?

What Makes Silk So desirable?

Pure Silk is a lightweight fabric that shines on both sides depends how it is woven. Silk is breathable, and regulates the body temperature. That makes Silk desirable.

Substitute for silk garments, synthetics or artificial “copies”, which isn’t as desirable as pure Silk.

During World War II, man-made “fabrics” like Nylon and Rayon were manufactured in the US. At that time, Japanese Silk was too expensive. Creative resources were the only way to produce fabrics for the fashion industry.

As far as I'm concerned, nothing will ever replace Silk. It can look tenderly feminine of high-tech, timeless or cutting edge.

Cupro is the artificial or semi-synthetic equivalent of silk. It has the same sheer lustre as Silk. Manufacturers in China are using “bad” chemicals to establish that lustrous, soft and sheer texture. Is Cupro sustainable? Unfortunately not! Realizing the same results as Silk.

Is Cupro as desirable as Silk aside from the sustainability issues? Personally, I don’t think. So. Can you find garments designed with Cupro that look irresistible on you? Yes! You can. If you like the whole design in itself, why leaving it on the shelf.

Or are you preferably going for the real deal?

Sericulture is a real art; because of that, for centuries, the Chinese were keeping this a secret for the outer world.

Speculations, trial and error and even myths keep people’s interest. How to develop and cultivate this delicate fabric that makes it extra desirable.

Eventually, the trade market during Silk Road makes it possible to spread knowledge about how to cultivate Silk.

You can imagine how fast this goes. Sericulture was possible outside of China.

Everybody wanted a piece of the pie, Europe, the Mediterranean, India, and finally worldwide.

To create “affordable yet desirable” for ordinary people, crafters and “manufactures” discover which type of silk moth could cultivate lots of  “silk yarns”.

Even Greek philosopher Aristotle give it a try by studying the lifecycle of a wild silk moth.

To suppress the dominance of the use of Silk, things have to change and fast.

Because Only imperial families, the rich and powerful notable members, were entitled to wear the desirable silk at that period. The segregation between “rich and poor” was clearly visible. Poor people wanted to look as irresistible as the rich.

Getting rid of this whole monopolistic era and domination of the “rich”. There was a need to find out how to cultivate and improve the production of the different types of silk moths.  And quickly!

What are the different types of silks?

Crafters discover that Silk is a natural protein fibre. Meaning that it comes directly from nature. Chemicals are hardly used to create the final fabric.

Interested in how it works, I’ve added a Youtube story in brief, about the production of silk, in less than 10 minutes. ……

Play Video about Bombyxs Mori silk production

The most common “insect” is the Bombyx Mori Moth Pupa or Mulberry Silkworm. The production process of the Mulberry cocoon is pretty harmful.

Mulberry silk moths don’t live in the wild like the Eri Silkmoth. Therefore it’s the most desirable Silk as you read before. It’s easy to cultivate these Silk moths in large amounts.

Nevertheless, there are ethical and sustainable considerations that are animal friendly. Wild, peaceful, vegetarian or sustainable Silk are excellent options with utmost quality benefits.

Sustainable Silk moths are living in the wild, semi-wild or farmed. Semi-wild and farmed moths are leaving their cocoons naturally.

Sustainable kinds Of the Most Desirable Silks

Thai Silk Moth

Its bumpy and irregular appearance characterises Thai raw Silk. It is a soft fabric with a bristle surface which makes it irresistible for specific designs.

The shades of this fibre or filament various from light gold to light green. Although the fabric is soft, a garment will always appear stiffer on the body.

You’ll see this use of Silk fabric at the royal assembly because of its classic yet irresistible appearance.

If you want a more classic style, choosing stiffer Silk alternatives. I mean, why you shouldn’t look irresistible as Queen Maxima.

Muga Silk Moth

This species lives in restricted areas in India, Assam. They are wild or semi-wild living species. The uniqueness of this type is the production of their special type of wild silk.

Tussah, Tassah or Tassar Moths

The Tussah moth also lives in the wild and. After gathering the cocoons from the wild, they are keeping them now as semi-wild breeding.  After the moths naturally leave the cocoon, the production process starts.

What are the most desirable Silks

You’ll hardly find garments in shops with these types of Silk because they are so desirable exclusive.

On the contrary, Mulberry Silk, you can buy in any store. Its ease of production makes it a high demand fabric with the same beneficial and desirable qualities as the sustainable Silks but less expensive.

Silk makes it desirable to create different kinds of fabric structures. Each creation gives a design its own exclusivity and elegance.
